Helix Bridge: Walking Route Across the Bay and the Jubilee Bridge

The Helix Bridge is the spiral steel footbridge between Marina Centre and Bayfront. Here is how it fits into the 3.5 km walk around the bay, how the Jubilee Bridge differs and where to catch the MRT.

The Helix Bridge

The Helix Bridge is a pedestrian bridge built in 2010 that links Marina Centre with the Bayfront side of the bay. Its spiral steel structure follows a double-helix shape, which gives the crossing a look unlike the other bridges in the city. It is a walking bridge only, so you can cross it at your own pace and stop to look at the view of the bay.

The bridge was completed in the same year as the 3.5 km Waterfront Promenade, and the two belong together: the promenade runs around the water, and the Helix closes the gap between the Marina Centre shore and the Bayfront shore. From the bridge you look onto the bay, the Singapore Flyer, the Gardens by the Bay and the skyline as a whole. For other places on the route, see things to do in Marina Bay.

Helix Bridge: what to know before you cross

A link between two shores.

The Helix Bridge is part of the pedestrian network around the bay, so it works as a link rather than a destination on its own. Most people cross it as part of a longer walk between the Gardens by the Bay side and the Marina Centre side. The spiral frame is easiest to appreciate from the middle of the span, where you can see the steel curve above and ahead of you, and from the shore, where it frames the water.

Access to bridges and promenades can change when large events take place around the bay, so check for notices if you plan your visit around a festival or a countdown evening. Because this is a shared path, keep to one side so that people can pass, and stop at the edges to take photographs rather than in the middle of the walkway.

Jubilee Bridge

The link between the Merlion and the Esplanade.

The Jubilee Bridge opened in 2015 and is 6 m wide. It connects the Merlion Park with the promenade in front of the Esplanade, and it is a good place to photograph the two domed roofs of the performing arts centre. It is a different kind of crossing from the Helix: a broad walkway between two well-known stops rather than a spiral. Read more about the statue at the Merlion Park page.

Walking route around the bay

A promenade you can do in sections.

The Waterfront Promenade is 3.5 km long. As a rough calculation, that is roughly an hour at an easy pace without stops, but a real walk with photographs, a coffee and a visit to the Esplanade takes longer. A typical order starts at the Merlion Park, crosses the Jubilee Bridge to the Esplanade, continues along the water toward the Flyer and the Marina Centre shore, crosses the Helix Bridge to Bayfront and ends at the Gardens by the Bay. You can also walk it in the opposite direction.

Since 4 May 2026 there has been a construction detour at the Gardens by the Bay, linked to bridge works between Bay South and Bay East. On the promenade there, cycling is not permitted and cyclists are sent on an alternative route, while pedestrians can still pass with a small detour. No end date has been published, so allow a little extra time on this part and follow the signs. Drones are not allowed over the gardens. If you want to go on to the gardens, the Gardens by the Bay page has hours and ticket prices.

Nearest MRT stations

Bayfront and Promenade.

Bayfront station, on the Circle and Downtown lines, is the closest stop on the Gardens side of the Helix Bridge. Promenade station, on the Circle and Downtown lines as well, is the better choice if you want to start on the Marina Centre side and walk toward the bridge. Both stations have an easy link to the rest of the city, and you can use either one as the start or end of your walk. The getting there page lists all the stations around the bay.
